Animal testing for cosmetics – still happening!!

It was an extremely suprising news story that caught my eye – Avon and Mary Kay – who for years have been animal testing free, have begun to do so again in order to do business in China.  My respect for these companies is severely damaged now.  I don’t use make-up very often, but when I do – it will not be there brands now.

For more information about which companies are still performing animal testing – go to this site: http://www.idausa.org/facts/crueltyfree.html

Remember, pets are still being stolen and sold to labs for this sort of testing…it is an abominable practice, and the only way to stop it is by not supporting the products that use this methodology for their products.

Corn seems to be the culprit

In an article posted on “Life with Dogs” at http://www.lifewithdogs.tv/2012/02/the-latest-recalled-dog-foods-all-contain-this-ingredient/,  Dr. Karen Becker investigates the latest pet food recalls for a commonality of aflatoxin sources.  What she discovered is that the one ingredient that is in common for all three products recalled was corn, in some form.

The three recalled pet  food products are:

Cargill’s River Run Hi-Pro No-Soy

P&G’s Iams ProActive Health Smart Puppy

Advanced Animal Nutrition’s NITRO 25-14 Hunter’s Formula

You might want to check your pantry now, and make a note to check the top five ingredients of your pet food purchases.  If corn is one of the ingredients, you may wish to choose a different brand to help ensure your pet’s health and safety.

Dog Treats from China Poisoning our Pets

In a recent article on Pet Pardons news, at http://news.petpardons.com/fda-receives-over-400-new-reports-of-dog-treat-poisoning-with-no-recall-in-sight/, there have been over 400 reports of pets being poisoned after eating treats made in China just in the last few weeks.  This isnot the first time this has happened.

Ohio Senator Sherrod Brown is calling on the FDA to investigate tainted dog treats.

Read the label on your dog’s treats, if they are made in China – do NOT feed them to your pet.

If you feel strongly, contact your local congressmen and senators to lobby for import restrictions.  Some of you may recall that baby formula from China was tainted as well.  When will the USA apply stronger sanctions on China’s products??
